Until last month I can’t ever remember using the word furlough and to be honest, I’m not quite sure I knew what it meant but now we all do. Many of you reading this may have been furloughed or at the very least you’ll probably know someone who has.
Every furloughed worker may feel differently about the unfamiliar situation they’ve found themselves in. Some may be worried about whether they will have a job to come back to. Others may feel that they are not valued enough in the organisation. Even those who might start off feeling relieved to have paid time off work, can end up with the novelty wearing off and feeling anxious from the significant time away from work.
So what can you do to support your furloughed employees?
Although furloughed employees cannot undertake any work, they can however undertake training. Business owners and People Leaders can use this opportunity to support the personal and professional development of their furloughed workers, and engage with their employees so they don’t feel out of sight, out of mind.
We appreciate this might not be possible for all organisations and that’s why we’re offering our people development platform HowNow for 3 months and in return you can ‘pay-what-you-want’. Seriously. We’re happy to offer it free of charge but if you choose to pay anything at all, this would go towards Room to Read to support 1.2 billion vulnerable children who are out of school due to Covid-19.
What does it include?
- Expertly curated courses, blogs, podcasts and ebooks on everything from sales and marketing to leadership and technical skills.
- Resources to help employees with their mental health and financial wellbeing.
- Built-in tools to add your own content and share with your furloughed colleagues.
- Web and mobile apps.
